maurices graciously sponsored this Instagram post, but I fell in love with the brand and chose to write a full blog post. All opinions shared here are my own. Thank you, maurices for gifting me the clothing and accessories in this post.
If your holiday family gatherings are anything like mine, then you probably keep things super casual and laid back. I typically wear my most comfortable sweater and a pair of jeans, especially when food is involved. (And when is food not a factor for a holiday gathering?)
This past Thanksgiving, my in-laws rented a lake house in Bellingham for everyone to gather and spend the weekend. My sister-in-law baked three pies for six people, lol! My favorite was the apple pie sheet cake, but she also made a pumpkin pie, and my husband’s favorite—chocolate bourbon pecan pie. I, of course, tried all three, and they did not disappoint!

What to Wear to a Holiday Family Gathering – Clothing
For the big day, I wore a poncho and jeans. This combination is great for covering up that inevitable Thanksgiving gut and hiding evidence of the overindulgence of sugary sweets! Even though I opted for my usual jeans, it would have been just as nice if I had of wore this buffalo plaid dress from maurices. It’s not too dressy, has a relaxed fit, and the fabric is incredibly soft. Oh, and it also has pockets and a tie waist that can be re-adjusted after enjoying a big meal. The length is modest and doesn’t cause the dress to feel stuffy.
For some added glam, I layered this black faux fur vest over the top of the dress. I love that the fur is one-sided, instead of all over—those tend to make me look bulky. When it gets colder, I plan to add a pair of black tights or leggings for extra warmth underneath. A great pair of over-the-knee boots would also look amazing!

What to Wear to a Holiday Family Gathering – Accessories
In addition to the buffalo print, this sparkly black glittery purse provides a hint of holiday cheer without feeling over-the-top. You can remove the straps and make it into a clutch, as shown in these photos. For my jewelry, I went with this rose gold necklace and these earrings. Both are fun for the holidays!
I would love to hear about your favorite holiday traditions! My mom typically comes to stay at my house the night before Christmas. We open stocking stuffers on Christmas Eve and presents on Christmas morning. We’ve continued this tradition with my husband. On Christmas morning, the three of us make brunch and exchange presents.
Be sure to check out maurices for your holiday attire! There are so many cute (and affordable) options. Their clothing would also make a great gift for the fashionistas in your life!
