5 Year Blogiversary & A Blogging Break

October 8, 2019

I typically do a special photo shoot for my blogiversary, including a dedicated post in which I reflect back on the previous year and make plans for the future. This post is a little different—no special shoot, lessons learned, or plans for the future.

Hello friends! It’s been a while so I thought I’d do a life update plus, it’s my blogiversary month. The official date is October 6. Happy 5 years Lace & Pearls community—we made it!

This post is a little different—no special shoot, lessons learned, or plans for the future. With my jewelry business being my primary focus, I don’t know where the future of this blog lies, but I know I want to continue blogging, even if it’s less frequent.

This past summer ACTUALLY felt like summer. When I was younger, the seasons felt more like true seasons. But when you’re part of the rat race (aka the corporate workplace), summer feels like any other day except warmer. If you’re lucky to get a vacation in, it’s an added bonus.

With that said, this summer felt REAL! Warm weather. Multiple weddings. And a vacation!

The last time I took a vacation was back in 2012 for my 2-year wedding anniversary. We went to Oahu. Since that time, we’ve only done work trips with a few extra days added in for fun.

August was busy. My best friend got married! Big congrats to her. It was the perfect Seattle wedding, great weather with a view of the city. Two weeks later, we attended my sister-in-laws wedding and bought a new car the night before.

Once September rolled around, it was finally time for our vacation—we chose to go to Maui. It was our first time visiting, and we loved it! We also celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary at the end of July, so we used this vacation to celebrate.

After Hawaii, we visited Boise, Idaho to check out the hype and see why all the young professionals (aka “Californians”) are moving there. The city is gorgeous, and the cost of living is ideal. Unfortunately, the job market is somewhat limited. And if you want to bike to work, you will pay Seattle-housing prices. If you’re open to living in the suburbs, however, you can get a brand new house at low cost.

Another fun milestone this summer—we hit 3 years since the adoption of our 2 kitties, Runt and Boss. We brought them home on September 26, 2016. I seriously can’t believe it. I feel like it was just yesterday! They bring so much joy and love into our home, and there’s never a dull moment.

Lace & Pearls Jewelry

I anticipated a mellow summer season for Lace & Pearls Jewelry (LPJ), but it was busier than expected. I had the opportunity to participate in the Botanical Pop-Up Market with Urban Craft Uprising and secured a new stockist. You can now shop my baubles in person at MOX Beauty, located north of Seattle in Edmonds, Washington.

I also spent my summer applying for fall/winter and holiday shows in addition to working on my new collection. To stay in the loop as to where I’ll be during LPJ’s busiest season, check out the event page and/or sign up for my email list.

Blogging Break

A few months ago (on social), I mentioned that I planned to take a step back from my blog to focus more on LPJ. At the time, I planned to maintain my blog, share an Instagram post weekly, and send a monthly newsletter. I’ve done okay posting on social media, but my blog has been neglected (as has the newsletter). I can’t make any promises in terms of the frequency of these, but I will continue to work on them as time allows.

To those of you who have read my blog since the beginning—thank you! And to those who continue coming back, I appreciate you. You are my motivation and the reason that I continue to share here.
