I’m not totally over winter, but it seems like a lot of people are. So today’s post is all about warm weather and preppy spring essentials. Even my husband is jonesing for our Maui vacation that doesn’t start until the end of November. Dear sun – we miss you!
The fall/winter season is my favorite, but I am loving all the fun prints, bright colors, and overall cheeriness popping up in stores and online.
Spring 2020 will bring an explosion of color and fun wallpaper prints, but most of the other trends (hot pants, crochet, neon, bra tops, Bermuda shorts) just aren’t for me. I’ll be sticking with the classics but hope to incorporate some pretty pastels and possibly one seafoam green item. So pretty!
My Top 6 Preppy Spring Essentials
Pastels colors – so many beautiful color options this season! It’s making my current wardrobe look drab. I’m not afraid of color but prefer neutrals. There is just something about them that I always love. With that said, I have seen so many gorgeous light-weight knits and I am excited to add some pale pink, blue, and green to my wardrobe.
Bright color – I’m really digging the fuschia right now! Not to be confused with magenta, no I won’t be rocking the highlighter trend. 🙂 I picked up this ruffle blouse to add some much-needed spark to my wardrobe. Hmm, could fuschia be my official color for spring? Which colors are you loving?
Pearls – no preppy spring list would be complete without the classic pearls. They’re timeless and are becoming more wearable. There are so many fresh takes on pearls this season and here are some that I’m loving. Consider picking up a dainty necklace, bracelet, or even a pair of statement earrings. Don’t judge me if I pick up all three. If you want to support my small business, I also have a pearl necklace and bracelet in my shop.
Colorful or a straw handbag– I don’t normally buy my bags by season, but it might be fun to have just one. They are an inexpensive way to add a pop of color to your outfit without breaking the bank. I would definitely hit up your local Target for some fun options.
Colorful shoes – I typically go for neutral shoes but I’ve seen a handful of colorful options that I might need to Spring for. See what I did there?! I have found that some colors can act as a neutral such as blue, green, or red. If you live in a warmer climate or vacation often, then you might be ok with picking up seasonal specific shoes. I’m in the northwest, so I don’t like to spend a lot of money on warm-weather footwear.
Pants/denim– I’m a denim girl at heart, however, when the warm weather begins I do like to rock a print or color on my legs. My go-to’s are gingham or polka dot, white or some other bright color, and I love a good camo print. In the denim arena, I’ve seen so many fun washes and styles. I’m kinda digging the demi bootcut style and of course my fav high waist denim.
Fashion Tip – If you live in a colder climate like myself, you might not want to spend a lot of money on your spring essentials. So I would suggest thrifting most of your items. My favorite thrift shop is thredUP. That’s where I picked up this adorable gingham jacket. If you prefer to shop new, try to pick up items that you can layer with throughout the year.
I don’t normally recommend fast fashion shops, but the following are great for the season and won’t hurt the bank.
- Costco
- Old Navy
- Target
- Local thrift shops – Good Will, Value Village, etc.
- Amazon
- Loft (when they’re having a promotion. Also check out their sales section)
