I just hit my one year anniversary of joining BeautyCounter as an independent consultant and using their products. If you’re not familiar with BeautyCounter, they’re a clean beauty and skincare brand with a mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Read my clean beauty story.
What makes them unique? Beautycounter is working at the legislative level to eliminate 1,800 questionable ingredients from the beauty industry. The Founder and CEO Gregg Renfrew has testified in a congressional hearing on cosmetic reform to further move the needle and is continuing to work with members of Congress to make this change.
It’s incredibly exciting to be a part of this movement and help educate others in choosing clean. If I can help one person become more aware of the ingredients that are in their products and switch to a clean option, then I am doing my job!
Shopping clean doesn’t mean that you have to purchase BeautyCounter, it simply means that you should be aware of the ingredients you’re putting on your body and skin. When you buy BeautyCounter, you’re supporting the mission and purchasing clean beauty products that have been fully vetted and sourced.
Did you know that “the U.S. has not passed a major federal law governing the cosmetics industry since 1938. (that’s over 80 years.) The European Union has banned or restricted 1,400 INGREDIENTS from personal care products. The U.S. has banned or restricted only 30.” Source
Why is this important? This means that brands can use whatever ingredients they want in developing products. This is incredibly scary 😱 since a lot of those ingredients are hormone disrupters, carcinogens, and much more.
Now that you know a bit about BeautyCounter and the importance of using clean beauty products, let’s dive into my top 6 favorite BeautyCounter products.
The CounterControl Collection is formulated for oily and blemish-prone skin. If this is not your skin type but you’re interested in seeing the other options BC has to offer check out CounterMatch (for dry to combination skin), CounterTime (anti-aging), or the Essentials Nourishing line (mature skin). Not sure which line is best for you? Take their skincare quiz.
I’ve been using the CounterControl Collection for almost a year. If you’re someone who suffers from ance this is the line for you. It’s also great for teens and those who want to minimize pores.
Compared to non-clean brands this collection is pretty effective. It will, however, take a bit longer to fully clear up your skin. It’s incredibly gentle and doesn’t burn or dry out the skin like other acne control products. It does not leave your skin feeling tingling or irritated.
Favorite CounterControl Items
All of the items within the collection are great but my favorites are the All Over Ance Treatment and Ance SOS Spot Treatment. So amazing! Even my husband uses the SOS Spot Treatment when he gets a breakout. It’s great at helping angry pimples look less scary and minimizes them without overdrying the surrounding area.
My skin is incredibly oily, and although this line has mattifying properties I feel like non-clean brands are better at combatting shine. Overall though, I am super happy with this line and will continue to use it.
This collection includes the following: Clear Pore Cleanser, Instant Matte Toner, All Over Ance Treatment, Matte Effect Gel Cream, and Ance SOS Spot Treatment.
The Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel is the holy grail! Every person should have it in their repertoire. I don’t know a single person who is not obsessed with this product including myself and my mom. The alpha-hydroxy/beta hydroxy acid treats the skin without overdrying and boosts the overall radiance while improving skin texture. It’s literally a miracle in a bottle!
Charcoal Cleansing Bar
The CounterControl collection includes the Clear Pore Cleanser, which is a daily exfoliant/scrub. I don’t like to exfoliate every day and find that it makes me oily so I picked the charcoal cleansing bar to alternate with.
There are so many benefits to using a charcoal bar but for now I’ll just share what I like about this one. I plan to do another post entirely dedicated to the benefits of using a charcoal bar.
The charcoal bar is ideal for oily/blemished prone skin, but other skin types can use it as well. It’s multipurpose and can be used on the face and body. It detoxifies and absorbs impurities in the skin without over-drying and lasts a long time. It’s become my go-to facial cleanser. I also use it to clean my makeup brushes.
Counter+ Charcoal Facial Mask
This mask is a best seller and I totally understand why! Formulated with kaolin clay and activated chacoal, it purifies and balances while absorbing excess oil and impurities. It also exfoliates and minimizes the appearance of pores. I use this mask along with the Overnight Resurfacing Peel several times a week. Between these two bestsellers, I’m totally set!
I have tried a lot of lip balms and this one is my favorite! It’s super hydrating and formulated with avocado oil, shea butter, meadowfoam seed oil, and jojoba oil. My lips are always dry, especially during the winter, so this conditioner packs a punch! It comes in two scents, Peppermint and Calendula. I have the latter. My husband uses it too so I had to purchase a second one so he could keep it on our end table next to his keys. The only thing I don’t like about this conditioner is it comes in a jar. I don’t like to use my fingers to apply a lip balm but there are worse things!
Beauty tip – use it at night as a lip treatment and wake up with smooth lips.
The Citrus Mimosa Hand Cream was one of the first items I picked up from BeautyCounter. The scent is incredible and not overpowering. They even carry it in a handwash, which I also have. The only drawback to this lotion is it’s a bit light. If you’re someone who needs a lot of hydration during the winter, consider picking this up in the spring/summer. It’s delightful!
