Happy Friday! The weather has finally cooled down in Seattle and it’s been raining non-stop. I hope everyone had a good week. My weekend will consist of catching up with friends and visiting the pumpkin patch on Sunday after the Seahawks game.

Modern Skinny

October 22, 2014

Modern Skinny
Long length sweater / Suede lace-up boots / LOFT chain link necklace / LOFT scarve /Modern Skinny Corduroy Pants

My favorite pant is the Modern Skinny by Loft! It’s dressy enough for business casual but still laid-back for the weekend. This fit is slim through the hips. It comes in an array of colors; I have in black, navy, grey, cranberry and rose. I’m a little less than 5’4” and the inseam is great at 31″ for wearing with booties, riding boots, or flats. This style comes in denim too – I have a distressed pair that sees lots of wear. I’m excited for the new animal print. I can’t wait to add this pair to my collection of printed denim.

If you prefer a non- skinny pant, this cord also comes in straight leg and boot cut.

The Loft is currently having 40% off on pants and sweaters. I would encourage you to sign up for the promotional emails to stay in the loop. But be warned, the Loft is addicting. Just ask my closet!

Boots Made For Walkin

A few years ago I bought the cutest pair of ankle boots. I wore them for a couple weeks and then developed significant pain in both of my big toes. It was unbearable. Shortly after I went to the doctor and was told I had tendinitis in my toes and should wear a supportive shoe with a rigid sole (something like clogs).

I’ve tried almost every comfort shoe under the sun. Last year I purchased two pairs of Dansko sandals (worn in this post) and a Dankso ankle boot. Both are great and comfortable. However, when it comes to boots, I prefer something with a lower heel and a streamlined appearance. My Dankso boot is 4 inches tall!

A few weeks back, I stumbled on a pair of Dr.Scholl’s booties on Zappos. A lot of Dr. Scholl’s have a rigid foot bed and look more contemporary then what I’m used to for comfort shoes. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and inexpensive they were. As recommended, I sized up a half size. I wear a 7 1/2 and purchased an 8.

If you have any other stylish comfort shoe recommendations, please leave them in the comments.

My personal style is best represented through classic fall pieces. I love wearing a button down shirt with a pull over sweater and a statement necklace; pairing riding boots with denim or cords and being bundled up in a classic coat (I have the sandstone).

If you love preppy fashion, then be sure to check out the Brooks Brothers Red Fleece collection. It is adorable! There are so many pieces I am coveting, like this embroidered cotton dog pattern shirt.

To get in the spirit of all things preppy, here are some inspirational photos with links to items that are similar.

Nothing Fancy

Neutrogena Cosmetics

For as long as I can remember, I have always been a fan of Neutrogena cosmetics. These products are inexpensive and work just as good as some high end brands. Here are my favorites.

  1. Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes– Some nights I am too lazy to wash my face. That’s when I reach for these. They are gentle, without over drying the skin. Another option is to use towelettes to remove makeup prior to washing your face with a wash cloth. This will save your towels from getting stained.
  2. Fresh Foaming Cleaner– This item is a make-up remover and cleaner in one. It works really well and leaves my skin feeling refreshed.
  3. Clear Pore Oil-Eliminating Astringent– I’ve been using this stuff for years. It treats acne and prevents future breakouts/blackheads. The salicylic acid eliminates and controls excess oil.
  4. Oil-Free Moisture- Combination Skin– I use this lotion at night and Kate Somerville’s Anti Bac Clearing Lotion during the day (my day lotion bleaches my pajamas and towels). This lotion is lightweight, non-greasy, and controls shine.

I’ve tried several other Neutrogena face products, but the above are the ones I use most frequently.

If you don’t have oily skin, Neutrogena carries products for all skin types so be sure to check out their website.
