Style a Bomber Jacket in 4 Easy Steps

September 12, 2017

Styling a bomber jacket is hard y'all! It took my mom and I an entire shop day to find something somewhat workable to realize it didn't. Wearing: floral bomber jacket, pink pants, and rose gold flats. Styling a bomber jacket is hard y'all! Maybe it’s just me, but I really wanted to wear something other than a plain white tee.

Bomber jackets are somewhat sporty for my personal style taste. But I fell in love with this one because of the floral print. It also doesn’t hurt that my good friend Crystal designed it. She’s amazingly talented and you should check out her site and Instagram if you haven’t already. If you find something you can’t live without, use code LACEANDPEARLS to receive 15% off your order, discount is valid until 12/31/17.

If you also struggle to style the ever popular bomber jacket follow these steps.

Style a Bomber Jacket in 4 Easy Steps

  1. Get the jacket in a fabric you love! There are so many bomber options. You can most likely find one that suits your style preference. Get creative, go for one with a great texture or print and of course a solid will work with most of the stuff you already own.
  2. Find a shirt. The key to nailing this trend is finding the perfect neckline. Go for something that shows a little skin. Avoid tops that come all the way up to the neck; it will look all kinds of wrong! I did try a v-neck and didn’t like it so I would recommend a scope neck or something similar to the blouse I’m wearing.
  3. Choose your bottom. Take a tip from Crystal and pair your bomber with your favorite skirt. She is always rocking this combo and looks oh so cute! Or go the traditional route and wear your most loved jean. I decided that an added pop of color would look best and went with this pink pair similar here and here.
  4. Accessorize! Pull it together with your favorite accessories and a bright lip! A great shoe is also important.

Now rock that bomber with your bad self! 😉

8 Retailers That Offer Personal Shopping Services

June 6, 2017

Everyone can benefit from a personal style session, even the most stylish fashionista. It can be intimidating to find someone you connect with, but when you do, it really is worth the time and effort. Everyone can benefit from a personal style session, even the most stylish fashionista. It can be intimidating to find someone you connect with, but when you do, it really is worth the time and effort. Keep reading to learn more about the benefits of personal shopping as well as retailers that offer the service.

The Benefits of Personal Shopping

It’s free. Don’t feel pressured to buy something just because your stylist has spent time pulling looks for you; they will understand as long as you’re upfront and polite. Let them know what you like and don’t like because it will better your relationship, especially if you continue to work together. Depending on the retailer, your stylist will be paid an hourly rate during your session and if you do make a purchase, they will most likely make a small commission as well.

Learn how to wear trends. It might just be me, but sometimes I find the cutest piece and have no idea how to wear it. That’s exactly what a personal shopper is good for! I don’t usually buy items that work for only one occasion and would love to be able to easily mix and match new finds with the rest of my closet. A stylist is good at helping you come up with multiple ways to wear each piece. They can provide you with options that you might not have thought of on your own.

Gets you thinking outside the box. Style rut? No problem. Tell your stylist what you’re hoping to achieve, whether it be mastering a new trend or adding some flair to your neutral-colored wardrobe. Sometimes a stylist can offer up style choices that are new and exciting but still work with your existing wardrobe.

Eliminate unnecessary energy trying to find an item. It’s the worst when you’re looking for something specific and can’t seem to find it anywhere. Your stylist will search high and low for that item in your size and specification. Then all you have to do is show up to try it on. This is incredibly useful when you’re on the hunt for the best of the best.

Stores that offer Personal Shopping Services

Anthropologie. From its well-curated decor and signature Volcano scent; walking into Anthropologie is like a dream. They have clothes for all occasions and I’m a big fan of their jewelry and girly tops.

Banana Republic. They have some of the best sales and most on-trend styles. Stock up on your basics, business casual pieces, and off-duty looks.

J.Crew. My go-to for almost everything. I love their toothpick jeans (I own these in several colors), their jewelry, and their novelty sweaters and blouses. The quality is the best.

Madewell. Sister store to J.Crew. They have a great mix of everyday staples with a twist and the quality is top notch.

Macy’s. I haven’t ventured to Macy’s in quite some time, but they have a massive selection of everything and always have a sale.

Nordstrom. When I think of personal styling services, I always think Nordstrom. They are known for their superior customer service and recently expanded their selection to include J.Crew, BaubleBar, and Loren Hope and many others.

Club Monaco. Beautiful high-quality pieces. Every piece I own from here I have bought with no regrets. It’s all beautiful and well-made.

My Style Suite (WA only). Schedule a style session and they will shop the entire mall prior to your appointment. Simply tell them the occasion you’re shopping for or the look you want to achieve and they do all the hard work for you! All you have to do is show up and have fun and if you decide to purchase anything, you can do it right there.

If you like the idea of personal shopping, but don’t have the time to do it in person, you can always look into online-only options like Stitch Fix as well.

Spring Trend: Ruffles + Anguay Designs

April 18, 2017

What is it about ruffles that make them so desirable? Is it the modern update that is super versatile and less structured? Personally, I can't seem to get enough of the romantic aesthetic. Whatever the reason, ruffles have come full circle and are popping up everywhere. What is it about ruffles that make them so desirable? Before we get into today’s post, here’s a little history lesson. Did you know that ruffles date back to the 16th century? While you might have guessed they were old, did you know that it was men who wore them? Yep, during the 16th century German soldiers wore uniforms with ruffles very similar to those we see today.

Ruffles – How to Wear?

Since ruffles are a statement all on their own, you don’t need much to accessorize them. Simple is best. Of course, I am big on jewelry so I decided to also go with a statement earring. I did, however, keep everything else minimal (e.g., ballet flats, color block tote).

Fashion tip: Let your ruffles take center stage and wear your hair back in a classic pony or an undone topknot.

Don’t stop there! Ruffles go well beyond tops and sweaters. Now you can find skirts and dresses with this frilly embellishment too. Depending on your body type, a ruffle skirt can do wonders. If you’re narrow in the hips, add some ruffles to give the illusion of curves.

Ruffles – Where to Shop?

I have seen this trend at every retailer: Target, Zara, Nordstrom, to name a few. I picked up this sweet polka dot blouse at J.Crew and also bought it in burgundy. The silk material makes the ruffles very forgiving, especially on a larger chest.

The tote is from Seattle brand Anguay Designs. I’m obsessed with the color blocking and external pocket, plus the lining is super cute. Crystal, the designer of Anguay Designs, is launching her Spring/Summer apparel line called Unlikely on April 24th. For a sneak peek, visit her Instagram and definitely check out her site because this girl is going places. If you see something you like, use code LACEANDPEARLS to receive 15% off your order, discount is valid until 12/31/17.

Thank you Anguay Designs for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.
