Valentine’s Day: Dress to Impress

February 11, 2016

AsaValentine-9

Now I am not the biggest fan of Valentine’s Day, but I love the idea of dressing up for the occasion. After being married for almost 6 years, it kind of loses it’s luster. We don’t have any plan, but even a causal night in with a big bowl of popcorn (real butter) or dinner at our favorite burger spot sounds fun. With that said, I hope you have something fun planned with girlfriends or a significant other. Before you rack your brain on what to wear, check out Megan (Diary of This Girl) and I’s photos to get inspired, and remember that no holiday is complete without a side of tulle and cupcakes. If you missed our first post you can check it out here.

I love how our outfits compliment each other. It’s pretty impressive considering we only discussed wearing tulle skirts. Megan’s skirt is actually a dress that she layered a sweater over. Her white statement necklace, red bag, and ballet flats suit her so well. I want her gold dainty layering rings too! So cute and perfect for everyday. Megan – if you ever want to part with that bag, you know where to find me.

I have always found tulle skirts challenging to style, especially in the colder months. To make things easier I started with the shoes, and decided that gray tights would work best. The gray sweater made the most sense and pulled everything together. For the accessories I wore a vintage brooch from the Victorian era adorned with a cameo and rhinestones. I found this piece at a cute shop in eastern Washington on a shopping trip with my mother-in-law.

The purse is from Old Navy. They have really upped their accessory game. The pink chain bracelet is a oldie but goodie as are the rings.

Enjoy your weekend and be sure to swing by Megan’s blog to see more photos from our Valentine’s Day shoot. Thanks so much for reading. See you next week!

Casual Valentine’s Day

February 9, 2016

AsaValentine-54AsaValentine-53

Whenever I collaborate with Megan from Diary of This Girl I have way more fun! This is why we are bringing you two Valentine’s Day looks this week – one causal and the other dressy.

AsaValentine-49  AsaValentine-50

I love how Megan went for a non-traditional Vday look, but still managed to look girly and romantic. Her polka dot quilted jacket is super cute and flattering. I like how she choose to wear a flowy white tank underneath. Her black & white printed clutch and sweet bow flats add some flair to her monochromatic look.

AsaValentine-76

I went the traditional route and wore pink. Although this sweater is not the most flattering on my frame, I couldn’t resist it. I love peplums and liked how this one came in a structured knit material.

In my goal to wear more brooches, I added my rhinestone bow brooch and a sweet thrifted button bracelet. I layered on a few dainty rings and made sure to include my heart-shaped one. For some extra glam, I attempted to do two dutch braids in my hair and wore my not-so-secret weapon, Ardell false lashes. I went with distressed jeans and rose gold ballet flats to keep things causal.

Visit Megan’s blog to see more pictures from this shoot, and be sure to swing back here on Thursday for our second look.

Christmas is only 8 days away! I can’t believe it. I’m most excited about taking time off from work and catching up on some much needed rest. Just the idea of sitting near a warm cozy fire and watching movies with my husband sounds amazing!

Today I am doing another fun collaboration with my friend Megan from Diary of this Girl. This time we are sharing our holiday looks. What I love about this shoot is how we managed to create two very wearable outfits that showcase our individual style, but still managed to compliment each other.

I am wearing the most adorable full skirt that is perfect for any holiday soirée. I didn’t want to look too fancy so I paired it with a plaid shirt. I love the pattern and fit. It’s also  great for layering. No holiday outfit is complete without some sparkle, hence the glam statement necklace. To see the details on my makeup, check out Tuesday’s post.

I love how Megan managed to include her signature leggings into her look. The printed blouse with gold flecks is perfect for the season and the statement necklace brings out the colors. The faux fur vest is the perfect accessory and the brown shoe keeps it from being too dressy.

Head over to Megan’s blog to see more pictures from this shoot. You can also see what she used for her makeup here.

Happy early weekend everyone! Thanks so much for reading.

Holiday Makeup

December 15, 2015

20151213A&MHoliday-18

I thought it would be fun to do a makeup look for the holidays. This look is inexpensive and can be easily recreated in just a few minutes. Megan from Diary of this Girl helped assist me in getting ready. She is an expert at applying false lashes and wears them on the daily #glamourgirl. This will be a two part post; first with the makeup, then the final look. Both Megan and I will be modeling our holiday outfits in Thursday’s post.

20151213A&MHoliday-200

To get started, I went through my daily skincare routine and applied my base makeup. Next I applied the Estee Lauder Pure Color Blush to my cheeks.

20151213A&MHoliday-220151213A&MHoliday-4 20151213A&MHoliday-7

I lined my bottom lashes with MAC Technakohl Liner. Next came the Smashbox Photo Op Trio, applying the lightest shade (vanilla) from lash line to brow bone, then adding the color Sable across the lid, and lastly applying the darkest shade Sumatra to contour and add to the crease.

20151213A&MHoliday-1020151213A&MHoliday-12

Then I swiped one coat of  Diorshow Lash-Extension Effect Volume Mascara to the upper lashes.

20151213A&MHoliday-1420151213A&MHoliday-17

For the final touch I used Ardell’s Double Up Lashes. Megan took the lead on this one. She cut the lashes to fit my eyes and bent them to fit. She then added the glue to the base of the lashes and carefully applied them to my lash line.

20151213A&MHoliday-18

Voila! Voluptuous beautiful lashes! If you wanted to take it a step further you could apply some liquid liner or a glittery one to the upper lash line. I had planned to do this step but was happy with just the falsies.

20151213A&MHoliday-2220151213A&MHoliday-24

For lipstick I went with L’oreal Color Riche Blake. This color may be still available in stores, but I had trouble tracking it down online. Another great alternative is Wet n Wild Stoplight Red for < $3. You can see it in this post.

Megan is covering her makeup details as well. Take a look!

Don’t forget to stop back on Thursday for our holiday outfits!  Thanks so much for reading.

Today I am teaming up with Megan from Diary of This Girl to style another look from Seattle boutique Lika Love. Megan and I just met a few weeks ago, but it seems like we have been friends for years. She is seriously one of the sweetest people I know. Doing this collaboration with her was a real treat. If you missed the first look you can see it here.

Malika Siddiq is the owner of Lika Love and is a true #girlboss. Not only is she smart and beautiful, but she understands that women need to be able to express themselves creatively through chic and affordable fashion.

I branched out a bit and tried something new for this look.  The cozy cable knit dress is darling and perfect for our chilly Seattle weather. The length works well with my 5’4 frame. The dainty pendant and gray bucket bag pull everything together. The burgundy floppy hat was so much fun and very boho. Adding the hat provided a pop of color to an otherwise neutral look.

Glam day look anyone? That’s what I thought when I saw Megan’s outfit. The drapey light-weight jacket is everything! And the silver statement necklace is gorg. The boyfriend jeans are cuffed to perfection and wear well with the oxford-like booties.  I love the burgundy color of her cross body bag; it pulls our looks together. Be sure to check out Megan’s blog to see more picture from our shoot.

I am partnering with Lika Love for a fun giveaway. She has kindly gifted the below scarf for one of my readers. To enter you will need to fill out the Rafflecopter. Good Luck!

At the end of the contest, the winner will be notified via email. This giveaway is only available to US readers.
