I work in a causal office where anything goes except jeans. People still manage to look under dressed. I value comfort as much as fashion, but that doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice style. I thought it would be helpful to share some tips for elevating your casual style.

  1. Pick something girly: If you’re wearing your favorite pair of jeans or casual pant, choose a girly top for some pizzazz. This can be a flowy blouse or a peplum jacket. Anything with a feminine print will do wonders. My go to is (surprise) lace.
  2. Choose a statement piece: A pretty scarf, amazing shoes, or your favorite handbag. My statement piece is my necklace. It’s a beautiful gold vintage locket with a floral etched design from a local antique show.
  3. Layer on the jewelry: If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you know that I love jewelry. It’s an easy way to add glam to your outfit. If you’re not big on accessories, try to find some simple earrings, a ring, or a pendant (or all of the above). I went for lots of gold jewelry, simple earrings (not shown), a gold bracelet, and one of my favorite rings.
  4. Color up those lips: Adding color to your lips will give you a more polished look, even in causal situations. If you’re not big on lipstick, use a tinted lip balm or gloss. Also, mascara is your friend. Do yourself a favor and swipe on 2 coats. 😉

Today I am sharing a couple tips on incorporating texture into your look. If you stick to picking colors in the same family you should have no problem applying these tips.

Color

First you need to choose your color palette. I went with pretty pastels and light blue hues.

Clothing

Since the weather has been on the cooler side lately, I added a striped blouse. Choosing a printed blouse instead of a solid added a subtle contrast to the lace front sweater. The blue pant ties this look together.

To incorporate texture try these:

  • Choose your textured item (dress, skirt, sweater)
  • Add a second layer in a print or solid
  • Bonus tip – when wearing a skirt or dress, add a textured tight

Accessories

You can also add texture with a handbag, a belt, shoes, or a scarf. Since this outfit is super girly, I chose a light brown bootie with floral cutouts. I added a pale pink bag with a snakeskin print. The final touch was a pearl bobby pin and statement necklace.

I am a huge fan of lace and all things girly. Today I’m going to share my tips for styling lace. If you’re not super girly, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with some tips on toughening up your look.

Lace

  • Dress – Lace dresses come in a variety of colors. I would shop for one in cream, navy, burgundy, or black. These shade are classic and easy to style. I suggest choosing a dress that falls above the knee for versatility.
  • Top – Lace tops can be tricky. You don’t want it too boxy and falling away from the body. If you can find one that is fitted it will provide you with a better profile.
  • Skirt – If you’re note super keen on lace, starting with a skirt is a good idea. You can break up the lace with another fabric up top.

Complete Your Lace Look

  • (Faux) Leather Jacket- Toughen up a lace piece with the ultimate badass accessory, the leather jacket. You can do no wrong with this pairing and you will exude chicness.
  • (Faux) Leather pant- Leather leggings are edgy and cool. Just throw them on and you’re good to go.
  • Chambray/Denim Jacket – A denim top of some sort will break up the look and provide a casual chic vibe.
  • Denim – Solid denim or distressed is the way to go depending on the look you want to achieve. I love an awesome pair of distressed jeans, but a solid pair would keep the look more polished and clean.
  • Pants – Depending on the color of lace you can pretty much style with any color. If you’re feeling bold you could go for a printed bottom.

Accessories

Last but certainly not least is your accessories. You can wear any type of shoe to fit the occasion. If you’re dressing up for an evening out, I’d suggest wearing a heel or wedge. If you’re going casual, wear a cute pair of booties. For a classic look try a flat.

For this look I kept it casual and paired the blouse with distressed denim and ballerina pink flats. I wanted to play up the feminine details so I added a rhinestone brooch, a locket, and the cutest cross body bag. I love the juxtaposition of pale pink and snakeskin!

I am excited for the long Memorial Day weekend. It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time! We are moving at the end of the month. I want to have our place packed up and ready by the time we head back to work.

I adore feminine lace details (hence my blog name). The pale pink hue of this blouse makes it extra appealing. It’s definitely a piece that I wear often. I am excited to bust out my white pants for spring. I had forgotten about them and was pleasantly surprised to find them packed away with my warm weather items.

What is everyone else up to this weekend?
