I never thought I would wear a pair of sneakers outside of the gym, but now that it’s become trendy it makes sense, particularly for me and my troubled feet. If you’ve read this blog for a while, or know me in real life, you may be aware of my feet issues and how I never wear uncomfortable shoes. So when the tennis shoe became the “it” thing, I was determined to work them into my wardrobe.
How to Channel Your Inner French Girl
No one can deny that Paris is one of the most romantic places on earth and the fashion there is irresistible. Look at the women who live there and how they put themselves together! They have truly mastered the act of dressing simply and looking chic.
When I threw this look together and gave myself a once over, I thought wow, I look unintentionally Parisian! This got me to thinking about the elements of dressing French aka “channeling my inner French Girl.”

How to Channel Your Inner French Girl
- Wear classic prints (stripes, polka dots or neutrals). When your wardrobe consists of predominantly neutrals it makes getting ready a cinch, especially when the color palette is so versatile. The colors you will most often see worn in France are white, black, tan, blue, and gray.
- Remember less is more. The French girl wardrobe is built on clean silhouettes and classic staples. While they do stay up to date on trends, they may only take one or two ideas from it and incorporate it into their existing wardrobe.
- Ballet flats are a must. Especially when getting around those cobblestone streets! French women like their clothes and shoes to be non-restrictive and comfortable. They will also rock a classic heel and sneakers (non-fashion type).
- Minimal accessories. A simple pearl, bar necklace, or even a locket are classic items that work with any outfit. This adds a special touch to your outfit without taking away from it.
- Look purposely unpolished. Messy topknot or loose waves, winged eyeliner, red lips. All of these things embody the Parisian girl. Keep in mind that looking effortless is more involved than it actually looks especially when creating a “no makeup look.” Don’t beat yourself up if it takes you a while to master.
What I’m Wearing
This silk polka dot dress is one I’ve had for a couple years. It’s pretty perfect and has pockets and a drawstring waist. If I really wanted to add the Parisian touch I might have worn my classic black ballet flats and a swipe of red lipstick.
Mastering the Parisian look is all about keeping it simple and sticking to the classics. It definitely makes getting ready easier when deciding what to wear. French Girls don’t necessarily have a large wardrobe but that doesn’t prevent them from looking polished and fashion forward.

Spring Trend: Ruffles + Anguay Designs
What is it about ruffles that make them so desirable? Is it the modern update that is super versatile and less structured? Personally, I can’t seem to get enough of the romantic aesthetic. Whatever the reason, ruffles have come full circle and are popping up everywhere.
Before we get into today’s post, here’s a little history lesson. Did you know that ruffles date back to the 16th century? While you might have guessed they were old, did you know that it was men who wore them? Yep, during the 16th century German soldiers wore uniforms with ruffles very similar to those we see today.
Ruffles – How to Wear?
Since ruffles are a statement all on their own, you don’t need much to accessorize them. Simple is best. Of course, I am big on jewelry so I decided to also go with a statement earring. I did, however, keep everything else minimal (e.g., ballet flats, color block tote).
Fashion tip: Let your ruffles take center stage and wear your hair back in a classic pony or an undone topknot.
Don’t stop there! Ruffles go well beyond tops and sweaters. Now you can find skirts and dresses with this frilly embellishment too. Depending on your body type, a ruffle skirt can do wonders. If you’re narrow in the hips, add some ruffles to give the illusion of curves.
Ruffles – Where to Shop?
I have seen this trend at every retailer: Target, Zara, Nordstrom, to name a few. I picked up this sweet polka dot blouse at J.Crew and also bought it in burgundy. The silk material makes the ruffles very forgiving, especially on a larger chest.
The tote is from Seattle brand Anguay Designs. I’m obsessed with the color blocking and external pocket, plus the lining is super cute. Crystal, the designer of Anguay Designs, is launching her Spring/Summer apparel line called Unlikely on April 24th. For a sneak peek, visit her Instagram and definitely check out her site because this girl is going places. I’m excited to introduce you to the jewelry brand Happiness Boutique. Their mission is to sell high-quality products while inspiring women to look and feel their best. All of the items are affordable without compromising on quality. I also like how you can shop by style preference (glamour, modern geometric, minimalist style, feminine classy, timeless, and boho).
Happiness Boutique Pieces
I received the Timeless Single Pearl necklace and the Minimalist Style Wrap Ring. The pearl pendant is a classic piece like its namesake and is perfect for day-to-day. I love the dainty gold chain and the way it adds something special to an outfit. The perfect holiday gift. The wrap ring is also a great choice for someone who prefers a more minimal piece. The structure is chic and looks good on its own or layered with other rings.
This look unintentionally ended up channeling the 60s (red lips and polka dots). Doesn’t get much more glamorous. This top is definitely going to be a new favorite. I, of course, love the patterned fabric and delicate sheer material. And who doesn’t love a pussy bow blouse? So cute!
The shoes are a big win when it comes to comfort and style. The hefty price tag might set you back, but they are worth it. It’s hard to tell from the photo but the heel pattern is snakeskin. Business in the front, party in the back!
The lipgloss is Gorgio Armani, a great color for the holidays or any time you want to look glam. Check out my review.
The Happiness Boutique should be one of your first stops when shopping for jewelry or a gift. Use code laceandpearlsblog at checkout to receive 10% off orders over $20. Need some ideas to get you started? Check out this incredible pearl statement necklace, these trendy pearl earrings, or this dainty pendant. Love them all! Happy shopping.
*Happiness Boutique graciously provided me with both of these pieces but all opinions are my own.

According to my husband aka “the fashion expert,” Seattleites don’t carry umbrellas. I’m curious to get his opinion on rain boots. It wasn’t until a couple years ago that I purchased my first pair. They make commuting and running errands a breeze.
I love a classic rain boot. I jumped at the chance to get a pair of duck boots from the Washington Shoe Company. They are known for their popular Chooka and Western Chief rain boots. These duck boots are super comfortable and sport a moisture-absorbing lining with a removable insole.
To style this look, I took some inspiration from Pinterest. Most of the images feature women in knit sweaters, button downs, and puffer vests. Since our Seattle weather is warm right now, I went with this lightweight blouse. Still classic but more appropriate. The necklace was a fun way to incorporate some color. I love the navy and orange combo.
Western Chief Rain Boot Trend
The Western Chief boots come in fun quirky prints, especially for kids. The Chooka boots come in a variety of colors and styles (tall, mid-calf, booties). For Fall, expect to see solid colors in rich reds, purples, and rose-pinks. Print options will consist of modern plaids and vintage-inspired florals.
If you’re in the market for a stylish pair of rain boots, be sure to you use these codes:
- SPRINGBOOTS – $5.00 off Western Chief orders until 5/31/16
- CHOOKA10 – 10% off Chooka orders until 5/31/16
The Washington Shoe Company gifted me these rain boots but all opinions are my own.
