Why You Should Experiment With Your Style + Rocksbox Review 6 Months In

January 3, 2017

Experimenting with your style is so important. I know this idea seems simple but a lot of people tend to shy away from it. Experimenting with your style is so important. Happy New Year Y’all! I am so excited for the year ahead and am anxious for all the possibilities. Now let’s get to today’s post.

My latest Rocksbox was all about color (bright blue statement necklace, bracelet, and earrings). I normally keep my jewelry neutral but was open to the change. I opted for a cozy gray cardigan and white blouse. The bell sleeves are unique and I love the marled texture.

Experimenting with your style is so important. I know this idea seems simple but a lot of people tend to shy away from it. The good thing about experimenting is you can always change it.

Here are 3 Reasons Why You Should Experiment With Your Style

  1. Experimenting with your style is fun. It can be super energizing to try something new. Even if you don’t like the outcome, you will be more open to change. You might surprise yourself and end up liking some of your choices, enabling you to take more fashion risks. When I first tried wearing red lipstick I was super hesitant, but seeing other women wear it made me want to give it a try. At first, I was self-conscious. Now I’m obsessed with it and feel like wearing a bright bold lip makes me stand out from the crowd (in a good way). It also gives me a signature style that I didn’t have before, minus my bangs.
  2. It’s an inexpensive way to change things up and avoid boredom. When I’m bored with my style, I often feel like I have nothing to wear, which leads me down the rabbit hole of spending money on things I don’t need. You don’t have to invest much to try something new. You can change up your makeup, or try a new hair style. If you’re unsure about a look or trend, opt for the inexpensive version first. If you end up liking it, then splurge for the genuine article. Another great option is to shop your closet. You will find creative ways to wear a piece or two. It will also give you a clear look at items that you might have forgotten or no longer need.
  3. It gets the creative juices flowing. First with your style, then in other areas of your life. Whenever I try something new, I feel a sense of accomplishment. Getting started is the hardest step, but once you’ve taken that first step it’s smooth sailing.

How do you experiment with your style?

I have never seen so many feminine pieces in one season. I usually have to hunt high and low for girly items, but not this year! I thought it would be fun to do a Fall roundup of girly sweaters at the end of this post, so keep reading until the end.

Before we get started let’s talk about today’s look. These Treasure & Bond jeans are definitely going to be a new favorite. They are super comfortable and I love the boyfriend fit and length. They do run on the larger size, so I would recommend going down a size. I got this ruffle sweater during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. I couldn’t resist the pleated hem.

All the pretty pastel accessories are from Rocksbox, a jewelry subscription service. This past month I received the Karen Scott pendant, Gorjana layering necklace, and Trina Turk earrings. I’m not usually a fan of layering necklaces (they always get tangled) but I thought this piece was pretty. The earrings are sweet and different from my usual studs.

The Best Closet Staples + Rocksbox Review – 4 Months In

September 6, 2016

Most people have these closet staples, and if you don't, they are easy to find on the cheap. I do however, recommend investing in a nice pair of jeans and a white blouse. Investing in both of these will save you in the long run.

Closet staples are great for two reasons; capsule wardrobes and building your closet’s foundation. I won’t be covering capsule wardrobes, but if you’re interested in learning more about them be sure to check out Unfancy. Caroline does an excellent job of breaking down the process into actionable steps.

Whenever I shop a Nordstrom sale, I get so tired of hearing that it is a great time to stock up on staples. I hate staples, they are so basic. But now I know better. Closet staples are the building blocks of a great wardrobe.

When I was choosing an outfit for this shoot, I was a little frantic. I felt like I didn’t have anything new to wear. I made a conscious effort to rely on my staples (distressed denim, white blouse, and utility jacket).

Closet Staples

The Utility Jacket

When I got this jacket I wasn’t sure I would wear it very much, but now I go for it weekly. Even though the recent weather has been warm, I still need a light weight jacket in the mornings and for the office. It’s super light weight and can be thrown into my tote bag when it’s not in use.

I have worn this piece with a chambray dress, black skinny jeans, and now this pair of distressed denim. It would also look super cute with a simple tee and skirt. That’s four options right there with just one jacket.

The White Blouse

A white blouse is a classic and looks good on everyone. You can wear it with any bottom (skirt, jeans, shorts). You could even put it under a dress. Do yourself a favor and buy two so you always have this option in the morning.

Distressed Denim

Do you really need an explanation for this one? I didn’t think so, but just in case, let me stress again that a good pair of denim will keep you looking your best. I am partial to distressed denim because I never like to look too dressed up. The distressing keeps things casual and fun. When you find a brand or cut that works, I recommend getting a couple washes or colors.

All of the accessories in today’s post are from Rocksbox, a monthly subscription service. This month I seriously fell in love with every piece. Closet essentials will de-stress your mornings. If the above items aren’t your staples of choice, find a few that are and make them work for you. What are your favorites? I would love it if you would share them in the comments.

Rocksbox Review – 3 Months In

August 3, 2016

rocksbox-review-91

This month’s Rocksbox was my least favorite box so far. It’s also the first time that I haven’t purchased any of the items that I received. I did like the new branding and color scheme. The white box is now a dark gray with rose gold letters, and the white tissue paper has rose gold and pink flecks.

What is RocksBox?

Rocksbox is a monthly subscription service that allows you to rent jewelry with the option to buy. You can hold on to your pieces for as long as you want. If you decide to keep something, you will be charged for that item when your box is returned.

What I Received

Gorjana Necklace

This is a simple piece that is versatile but didn’t hang right. The layers kept tangling around each other. The length also bothered me and didn’t work well with the ruffle blouse that I wore. This necklace would work best with a smooth tee or blouse. I also feel that it’s priced too high for what it is. Needless to say, I sent this one back.

rocksbox-review-90

Nashelle Cuff

This piece is cute, but I was not impressed with the quality. I’m also not a fan of cuff bracelets because they are hard to layer with other bracelets. I thought this one was also not worth the price.

rocksbox-review-89

Kendra Scott earrings

These earrings are super girly and cute! I love the ivory pearl stone and the rhinestones etching. I haven’t gotten a Kendra Scott piece that I didn’t like. Her pieces are always top notch.

Rocksbox lets you provide feedback on the products in your shipment. On this order, I provided the same feedback as I did in this post. The good news is that my latest box is amazing! I surprisingly like all of the pieces and can’t wait to share them with you next month.

Rocksbox Customer Service

I have had to reach out to the Rocksbox’s customer service a few times. With my first box, I lost the earring back from an earring and they credited me $10 for the inconvenience. I was totally surprised since I was at fault.  Another time, one of my packages was lost in the mail and they were quick to send me a replacement. Overall, I’ve been super impressed with the service and the quality of their products.

Rocksbox Review – 2 Months In

May 30, 2016

Seattle-Photographer(31of65)

I have always been wary of subscription box services. Why would I need someone else’s recommendation when I already know what I like? That said, I have fallen in love with Rocksbox. Check out last month’s review.

What is RocksBox?

Rocksbox is a monthly subscription service that allows you to rent jewelry with the option to buy. You can hold on to your pieces for as long as you want. If you decide to keep something, you will be charged for that item when your box is returned.

This month’s box was even better than last time. If you remember, I wasn’t too keen on the quality of some items. I did end up keeping the Loren Hope bracelet. This month I liked all the pieces, keeping 2 out of 3.

Seattle-Photographer(39of65)

First up is this gorgeous Kendra Scott necklace. The mother of pearl stone is beautiful and that tassel is just so fun. This piece goes with pretty much anything. I shamelessly have worn it every day since receiving.

Seattle-Photographer(55of65)

My second favorite piece was the Wanderlust + Co triple cage ring. This piece is on-trend and oh so fabulous! At first glance, I thought I would never wear it, but then I tried it on and I just knew it was perfect.

These beautiful Sophie Harper pave ball studs are perfect for every day. I would have kept them if I didn’t already have a similar pair. I love how understated and sparkly they are.

Final Thoughts

I love Rocksbox and can’t wait to receive my next box! This could be dangerous for my wallet. Members do get a discount on the items they keep, but you might want to set yourself a Rocksbox budget. 😉

If you would like to give Rocksbox a try, use code laceandpearlsblogxoxo at checkout to receive your first month free.
