The weather in Seattle has been unpredictable lately. Some days it’s warm and others it’s chilly and wet. If you live in a similar climate or just want some tips on layering, this is the post for you.

Pick a color palette When in doubt choose colors that are in the same family. If you’re wearing neutrals, stick with neutrals but if you’re feeling spontaneous go with vibrant and bold colors.

Choose your base For my base I went with a leopard blouse, the perfect compliment to a neutral color palette.

Add your layering piece This sweater jacket by Shein is a great layering piece. It’s super affordable and the quality is decent. I love that the sweater is not bulky and it comes in one of my favorite colors. When you’re working with layers, pick a material that flatters your frame.

Watch your proportions Know your body and what looks best on you. Spend time playing with different lengths and styles. I tend to shy away from anything long because of my height. At 5’3″ it’s easy to get overpowered by too much fabric.

Mix your prints I sometimes wear dots on dots, or stripes with stripes, but you can also mix and match your prints.  If you decide to wear a large print be sure to pair it with a smaller one, keeping your colors in the same tone.

Pick two shoes When temperatures are cool, my go-to is wool socks and boots, but then the weather surprises me and warms up mid day. This is why I suggest picking out more then one shoe. In this case, I would go with a pair of flats that are easy to throw in your bag.

Accessorizes your look To add some depth to your outfit try a hat, scarf, or gloves.

If for some reason you find yourself in 60 degree weather, just wrap your sweater around your waist, remove your accessories, throw on some flats, and you’re ready to go. Don’t forget your sunnies!

How do you dress for the in-between season?

Ruffle Sweater

I have always had a fondness for girly things. If the item is made out of flowy material, spinning usually ensues as I skip around the house, obnoxiously flipping the hemline. This is when my husband tells me that I resemble a cupcake or some other frilly object.

When I saw this sweater on the Shein website, I almost died! I love the ruffle neckline and hem. The weight of the brown tweed balances out the sweetness. Full disclosure: the arms of this sweater are tight and the body is over sized (I’m wearing a large). I had to rubber band the back of the sweater to give it some shape. I plan to get it altered. I typically wear a size large or 12 to give you perspective. If you’re ordering from Shein, the quality is good but be sure to take your measurements and compare them to their size chart to make sure you get the right fit.

To toughen up this look, I wore my black distressed jeans, edgy Michael Micheal Kors cross body bag, Stella & Dot Pave Sphinx ring, and my simple ballerina flats. It rained during the shoot, so I opted for a messy up-do to show off the ruffle neckline.
