The weather is finally turning nice聽in Seattle and I’ve been taking full advantage with聽lunch聽hour聽walks. I love being able to step away from the desk and see people walking their dogs, jogging, and biking. It’s probably one of the best parts of my day.

To make a smooth transition into Spring there are a couple fashion accessories that you will need.

4 Fashion Accessories You Need For Spring

  1. A聽colorful tote. This beautiful handwoven tote聽(with POM POMs) is the perfect accessory to carry you through聽Summer. It’s not only versatile but suits most occasions (the beach, farmers market, and dinning al fresco). I would pair this bag with a floral dress, shorts, a skirt, or jeans.
  2. White denim. The ultimate fashion blogger accessory for Spring. I bought this pair last summer and wore them to death. They are perfect for work and easy to style. Wear them with a button down shirt, blouse, or tee. The NYDJ in particular are super comfortable and wash up like new. They have survived numerous spills聽and the stain always comes out.
  3. A pair of neutral sandals. As mentioned in this post, I have the worst luck with shoes. In my search I found these Josef Seibel sandals. They are on-trend and so comfortable. My heart literally sang when I put them on. No break-in necessary; you can wear them right out of the box! I need them in every color.
  4. A midi ring or two.聽I have always been hesitant of midi rings, and wondered how they stayed on. I found聽this one聽at Pretty Particular (use code laceandpearls to receive 20 % off your order) and it fits perfectly snug. I love the color and the gold beads on each end. I am now part of the cool girls club with this edgy accessory.

Other Must-Have:

  1. A good seasonal lipstick or gloss
  2. Staple sunnies
  3. Juicy beach reads. Got any recommendations?
  4. Cute water bottle
  5. Denim jacket

P.S. The necklace, earrings, and bracelet are all from Rocksbox, a jewelry rental service. I will be doing a review on their service later this month. If you can’t wait until then get your first month free with code laceandpearlsblogxoxo at checkout.

I work in a causal office聽where聽anything goes except jeans.聽People still manage to look under dressed. I value comfort as much as fashion, but that doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice style. I thought it would be helpful to share some聽tips for elevating your casual style.

  1. Pick something girly:聽If you’re wearing your favorite pair of jeans or casual pant, choose a girly top聽for some pizzazz. This can be a flowy blouse聽or聽a peplum jacket. Anything with a feminine print will do wonders. My聽go to聽is (surprise)聽lace.
  2. Choose a statement piece:聽A聽pretty scarf, amazing shoes, or your favorite handbag. My statement piece is聽my necklace. It’s a beautiful gold vintage locket with a floral etched design聽from a聽local antique show.
  3. Layer on the jewelry: If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you know that I love jewelry. It’s an easy way to add glam to your outfit. If you’re not big on accessories, try to find some聽simple earrings, a ring, or a pendant (or all of the above). I went for lots of gold jewelry, simple earrings (not shown), a gold bracelet, and one of my favorite rings.
  4. Color up those聽lips: Adding color to your lips will give you a more polished look, even in causal situations. If you’re not big on lipstick, use a tinted lip balm or gloss. Also, mascara is your friend. Do yourself a favor and swipe on 2 coats. 馃槈

How to Layer in Between Seasons

The weather in Seattle has been unpredictable lately.聽Some days it’s warm and others it’s chilly and wet. If you live in a similar climate or just want some tips on layering, this is the post for you.

Pick a color palette聽When in doubt choose colors that are in the same family. If you’re wearing neutrals, stick with neutrals but if you’re feeling spontaneous go with vibrant and bold colors.

Choose your base聽For my base I went with a leopard blouse, the perfect compliment to a neutral color palette.

Add your layering piece聽This sweater jacket by Shein is a great layering piece. It’s super affordable and the quality is decent. I love that the sweater is not bulky and it comes in one of my favorite colors. When you’re working with layers, pick a material that flatters your frame.

Watch your proportions聽Know your body and what looks best on you. Spend time playing with different lengths and styles. I tend to shy away from聽anything long because of my height. At 5’3″ it’s easy to get overpowered聽by too much fabric.

Mix your prints聽I sometimes wear dots on dots, or stripes with stripes, but you can also mix and match your prints. 聽If you decide to wear聽a large print be sure to pair it with a smaller one, keeping your colors in the same tone.

Pick two shoes聽When temperatures are cool, my go-to is wool socks and boots, but then the weather surprises me and warms up mid day. This is why I suggest picking out more then one shoe. In this case, I would go with a pair of聽flats that are easy to throw in your bag.

Accessorizes聽your look To add some depth to your outfit聽try聽a hat, scarf, or gloves.

If for some reason you find yourself in 60 degree weather, just wrap your sweater around your waist, remove your accessories, throw on some flats, and you’re ready to go. Don’t forget your sunnies!

How do you dress for the in-between season?

Outfit Remix: Easy Ways to Maximize Your Wardrobe

Most people don’t have the luxury of wearing a new outfit everyday. This is why I love the idea of doing more with less. It is much easier to come up with great outfit combination when your wardrobe consist of good quality pieces that are easily interchangeable.

I have never considered wearing these two pieces (vest and sweater) together. Since they are both pretty neutral it just kinda works. I managed to create 5 different outfits (if changing your hair counts as a different look). I thought it would be fun to share some tips on making the most out of your wardrobe.

  • Purge unnecessary items Having too many items in your closet (especially those that you don’t ever wear) only makes it more challenging when you’re getting ready. You don’t need to have a massive wardrobe to look good, just a smart one that works with your lifestyle.
  • Invest in聽versatile聽pieces聽If the majority of your closet consists of unique items that聽can only be worn for only one occasion, you may need to reassess your strategy. When you make a new purchase, bring that piece home and work on creating several outfits. If you’re not able to accomplish this task, then you may want to return that item.
  • Stick with neutrals聽This will ensure that most of the items in your closet can be worn together, making them聽easier to style.聽
  • Accessorize!聽A new handbag, shoe, or piece of jewelry can make the most basic of outfits look instantly chic. Invest in quality items and you will get more bang for your buck.
  • Change your hair or makeup This can really up your game and is an inexpensive way to change things up. Try a new hairstyle or lipstick. Both of these can make a difference and take the focus away from your clothing.
  • Choose quality over quantity When you’re building your wardrobe it should only consist of the things you love. Having nice things (investment pieces) will prevent you from coveting unnecessary items, satisfying you and your wallet.

I hope that you have found this helpful and it inspires you to get creative with the items that you already have. Thanks for reading!

Thrift Store Fashion – A Beginner’s Guide

It's best to have some type of strategy when it comes to thrifting, so I thought it would be helpful to put together a list of thrift store fashion tips.

I have recently gotten into thrifting. I love the hunt and the excitement of finding something unique that can’t be bought in-store. My good friend Megan of Diary of This Girl is a champ at finding the best thrift store fashion items. If you haven’t been to聽her blog, I encourage you to check it out.

My style is super girly and classic, so when I found this cardigan at Classic Consignment聽I was in hog heaven. I love the color (I’m a big fan of neutrals), and if you know me, I couldn’t resist the ruffles.

Whenever I go thrifting, I primarily buy whatever catches my eye. I know that this strategy doesn’t work for everyone, 聽so I thought it would be helpful to put together a list of聽thrift store fashion tips.

Thrift Store Fashion – A Beginner’s Guide

Prep Tips

  • Location location location聽If you shop in a nice area you can expect to find better things then if you shop elsewhere. Do your research and utilize Yelp, Google, and The Thrift Shopper to find cool stores in your city.
  • Create a wishlist聽Just because you聽are getting a good deal聽doesn’t mean that you want to have聽buyer’s remorse. To keep things in perspective, I suggest doing a closet assessment to identify any gaps and make a note of other fun items that you hope to find.
  • Carry a reusable shopping bag or two You’re already helping the environment when you thrift, so keep the momentum going and bring your reusable shopping bags. They can be easily stored in your purse.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothes聽Thrifting can be an all day event, so you’ll want to wear your most comfortable pair of shoes. There is nothing worse than getting your shop on and having your feet hurt. Be sure to also wear comfortable clothes. This is not the time to wear a bunch of layers and lace up shoes. After your second round in the dressing room, you will regret not wearing something simpler.
  • Brings snacks聽Shopping is exhausting and sometimes emotionally draining, even when you’re having fun. Be sure to stay hydrated and well-fueled during your shopping extravaganza. Definitely bring water, fruit, almonds, and anything else you think you might need.

General Tips

  • Shop at the start of the season聽People tend to clean out their homes at the end of a聽season. January聽is another good time to shop.
  • Talk to the employees聽Find out the best days to shop and when new shipments are delivered.
  • Don’t just buy something because it’s a good deal Keep things in perspective and refer back to your wishlist that you created prior to your trip. If you’re on the fence about a purchase think about how useful the item is and how much wear you’ll get from it. If you can only wear it for one occasion (unless you’re shopping for an event), or only 25 % of the time, you should probably hold off.
  • You can always repair it If a piece you find is damaged or not the perfect fit, you can always have it repaired or altered depending on the condition. Keep an open mind.
  • Shop Often聽Thrifting is like any other type of shopping; sometimes you have good days and other times you don’t. Be sure to visit your favorite hunts often to find the best deals. Just like regular retail, the good stuff moves quick.

Thrifting Benefits

There are a lot of benefits to thrifting,聽but most importantly聽thrifting creates jobs and reduces our carbon footprint. Donating your items keeps聽them out of the聽landfill. Bigger organizations have large recycling programs and fund charitable organizations through the donations that they receive.

Places to Shop Online

  • ThredUp
  • Good Will
  • PoshMark

Thrift often and have fun! If you have additional tips please share them in the comments.
