Outfit Remix: 3 Tips on Shopping for Timeless Fashion Pieces

May 3, 2019

Timeless fashion pieces are a must, and investing in quality, potentially higher-end items pays off. Plus, they retain their value and never go out of styleOver the years, I enjoy looking back at my style choices. Personal style should evolve as trends and preferences change. But what does it mean when you think you’ve created an entirely different look, only to realize that you wore something similar almost 4 years earlier. Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did it Again” comes to mind, but really?!

  • Sparkly cream jacket, check!
  • Neutral undershirt, check!
  • Gray denim/cords, check!
  • Unique brooch, check!

Wow! In which year did Asa wear it better? LOL. I hope that “2019 Asa” is a bit more fashion forward than my 2015 self. I do know, however, when I was younger, I was more adventurous with my fashion choices and dare I say it, “trendy.” I would rock a jumpsuit, overalls, culottes, hats, neck scarves — you name it!

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Stop playing the comparison game. It will only drive you crazy. Put that energy into something productive and remember that worrying about what others have will not get you further along.

I often think about other bloggers and what they’ve accomplished. It makes me want to throw in the towel, but then I realize that I am not ready for what’s to come. I don’t have time to blog 5 days a week and be active on every social platform, nor do I want to.

Stop Comparing Yourself and Here’s Why

When life bogs you down and you start comparing yourself to those around you, put that energy into something you’re passionate about. Then continue to refine it. Once you’re the expert in that particular area, take on a little more.

When the time is right, your opportunity will come. If that doesn’t happen right away, just know that you have more to learn. Now don’t get me wrong, some do get that break early, but maybe they were ready. It was their time to begin the next chapter.

On the flip side, if your opportunity is now, hooray! You can only learn so much on your own before you have to learn through experience. You’re going to make mistakes, and that’s OK. By the time you’ve made your mark no one will even remember the mistakes you made along the way.

So keep all this in mind the next time you feel like comparing yourself to others. Even those who look like they have it all, don’t. We are all struggling with something.  Stay positive and pat yourself on the back for your successes. Remember to put that negative energy into your next opportunity.

Welcome back for the second look of my collaboration with MaRae from The Always Fabulous. We are partnering up this week to style similar looks from our closets. Swing by her blog to check out her black & white look. If you missed Tuesday’s post you can see it here.

I don’t have much black in my wardrobe, but when I saw this fabulous Chanel-like tweed jacket I knew I had to have it. To break up this monochrome look, I would add a bright colored blouse underneath the jacket or swap out the black pants for jeans. I added the dog brooch to give it some Asa personality. I am obsessed with brooches and have a pretty large collection. I am working on incorporating them into my styling.

Thanks so much for reading. See you next week!

Happy Spring

March 19, 2015

DSC_0219DSC_0252DSC_0263Sweater: J.Crew (same style/different color) | Skirt: J.Crew (old)| Denim Jacket: Gap (similar) | Necklace : J.Crew (old) | Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs (similar) | Booties: Jambu | Lipstick: Bite (color Moka)

Whenever I wear a skirt or dress, I always find it challenging to match the tights and the shoes. I did some research and here are the recommended guidelines.

  1. You should match your tights/socks to your shoes.
  2. Or, match your tights to your skirt/dress and keep the shoe neutral.

This outfit just missed St. Patrick’s Day. Not to worry though, as it still embodies the look of spring. This sweater is an oldie but a goodie and super warm. I bought it to compliment the multicolored palette of the skirt. The finishing touch is the bright yellow bubble necklace. If that necklaces doesn’t say spring then I don’t know what does.

Have a great weekend everyone. See you Tuesday!

Flippy Skirt

March 3, 2015

The last three outfit posts (including this one) have been monochromatic. This was not intentional – I like color. I don’t even own a  black sweater, unless you count this one with horizontal gold stripes.

On a recent shopping trip I picked up this tweed flippy skirt to add to my growing collection. This silhouette is different for me and I love it. I feel like it’s pretty versatile, and can be dressed up or down depending on the shoes/ top. Next time I’ll pair it with a chambray shirt.

On Sunday, I met my best friend for brunch at The Dish Cafe. It was our first time checking it out and the food was really good. We did a little shopping afterwards and went to see Fifty Shades of Grey. We both enjoyed the movie (and were a bit giggly).
